🌟 Mental Health Awareness Month Project Highlight Dartmouth Health’s Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) New Adolescent Medical Psychiatry Unit 🌟
At Fitzemeyer & Tocci, we recognize the critical role that healthcare environments play in supporting mental health and well-being. As part of our commitment to advancing behavioral health care, we were proud to support the Dartmouth Health’s Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) in their recent renovation to provide specialized care for pediatric behavioral health patients. The six-bed inpatient unit will provide care to adolescents ages 12 to 17 experiencing mental health crises.

The New Adolescent Medical Psychiatry Unit project involved the comprehensive renovation within Building 1, Level 2 East at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. The renovation transformed the existing inpatient space into a dedicated pediatric behavioral health inpatient suite, fostering a safe, therapeutic, and welcoming environment for young patients and their families. The AMP unit is a collaboration between the Children’s Hospital at DHMC and Dartmouth Health’s psychiatry department. The unit aims to help address ongoing shortage of pediatric mental health beds in the region.
Our team delivered mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEP/FP) engineering services, encompassing both design and construction administration. We collaborated with Lavallee Brensinger Architects and HP Cummings Construction Company to integrate robust safety measures and specialized healthcare design principles, enhancing patient comfort and operational efficiency, and promoting better mental health outcomes.
At F&T, we believe that mental health is an integral part of comprehensive healthcare. We are honored to have contributed to the development of spaces that support healing and resilience, especially for vulnerable pediatric populations.
