This transformative project involved a comprehensive renovation and expansion of the University’s original 1972 library, a distinctive 5-story, 155,000 square-foot cast-in-place concrete structure designed by renowned architect Paul Rudolph. The renovation preserved the architectural integrity of the original design while integrating modern systems and functionality to meet the needs of today’s students and faculty.
Fitzemeyer & Tocci provided full mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEP/FP) engineering services, with a key focus on centralizing the building’s HVAC system. The new centralized system greatly enhances energy efficiency, system controllability, and ease of maintenance—contributing significantly to the building’s long-term performance and sustainability.
This project achieved LEED Gold certification, reflecting a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and high-performance building standards.
