Fitzemeyer & Tocci provided MEP/FP engineering design and construction administration services for the new $14 million Intensive Care Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital, part of the Southcoast Health system. The project added 16 private ICU beds to expand the hospital’s critical care capacity in support of its goal to achieve Level II Trauma Center designation.
The new ICU was designed to deliver an optimal experience for patients, families, and clinical staff. Each of the 16 private universal rooms is equipped with advanced video monitoring systems to enable safe, continuous communication between patients and caregivers. The design also includes enhanced support spaces and transitional screening windows to maintain privacy during care activities.
To further promote healing and caregiver well-being, the unit features circadian rhythm lighting—providing a dynamic lighting environment aligned with natural biological cycles.
