🌟 Mental Health Awareness Month Project Highlight: Cambridge Health Alliance’s Center for Inpatient Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, A Safe Haven for Youth 🌟

At Fitzemeyer & Tocci, we believe that mental health care for children and adolescents is vital to building resilient communities. That’s why we are honored to have played a pivotal role in the creation of the award-winning Cambridge Health Alliance’s Center for Inpatient Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. This facility was born out of a vision to provide a safe haven for vulnerable youth facing acute behavioral health needs, and our team’s innovative engineering solutions helped make this vision a reality.
Completed in May 2022, the project transformed the existing Somerville campus into a state-of-the-art Center of Excellence. The new 60,800-square-foot facility, spanning five floors, features 69 new beds designated for children, adolescents (aged 3-17), and specialized youth neurodevelopmental care, along with a supportive food service cafeteria. The entire project was executed within a tight 16-month timeframe, addressing the growing mental health crisis and the increased demand for pediatric psychiatric care in Massachusetts.

Our team delivered comprehensive MEP/FP engineering and construction administration services, working alongside an outstanding project team, Â Lavallee Brensinger Architects,

Collaboration was key to delivering this transformative project. We partnered closely with Cambridge Health Alliance, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services, the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health, Public Health, and Mass Health. Early involvement of key subcontractors, vendors, and manufacturers’ representatives ensured a streamlined and efficient process.

By prioritizing safety, comfort, and healing, the new Center of Excellence is poised to make a lasting impact on public health and the community. At F&T, we are proud to have contributed to creating a space that supports mental well-being for vulnerable youth. This project was awarded the 2024 ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence Award in Bronze, and 2023 AGC Construction Risk Partners Build America Award.
