Fitzemeyer & Tocci recently partnered with Saint Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH to modernize the facility's fuel oil infrastructure, improving reliability and supporting long-term operational resilience for the hospital's dual-fuel boiler plant.

As part of this project, F&T provided engineering design and construction management services for the replacement and upgrade of the existing fuel oil system. The project included replacement of the fuel oil piping network and upgrades to the fuel oil pumping system to facilitate the transition away from No. 6 fuel oil. The project modified the burners and burner controls to run on natural gas with No. 2 fuel oil as the back-up.
Working closely with hospital stakeholders and specialty contractor CommTank, F&T coordinated the replacement of two existing 15,000-gallon underground fuel oil storage tanks with a single 20,000-gallon underground tank designed to support the facility's long-term fuel strategy of primary natural gas and secondary ultra-low-sulfur oil. CommTank provided design and installation services for the tank replacement while F&T ensured seamless integration with the broader system upgrades.
Beyond engineering design, F&T served as the Owner's Construction Manager throughout the construction phase. Our team facilitated project planning through an on-site construction kickoff meeting, coordinated activities among contractors and boiler technicians, and worked closely with hospital operations staff to maintain schedule and minimize disruptions.
Through proactive coordination, strong communication, and a collaborative team approach, the project was delivered successfully and on schedule. The upgraded system provides Saint Joseph Hospital with a more reliable fuel oil infrastructure, helping ensure dependable boiler operation and supporting critical healthcare services for years to come.
