Southern Maine Health Care's Sanford Behavioral Unit

🌟 Mental Health Awareness Focus: Southern Maine Health Care’s Behavioral Health Unit 🌟

At Fitzemeyer & Tocci, we understand the vital importance of expanding mental health care resources, especially in areas with rising behavioral health cases. That’s why were proud to partner with Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) to develop a behavioral health unit at their Sanford campus.

Due to an increase in behavioral health cases and a lack of short-stay beds, SMHC constructed a new short-stay behavioral health care unit, which accommodates up to 42 patients in a mix of private and semi-private rooms. This project enhances critical care capacity for York County patients experiencing short-term crises.

Fitzemeyer & Tocci provided comprehensive MEP/FP engineering and construction administration services for the design and construction of the new unit, built on Sanford campus’s Marland building, originally constructed in the 1960s. Our engineering team employed an innovative solution by using an active chilled beam system as the primary heating, cooling, and ventilation system.

By implementing modern engineering solutions and strategic planning to this 1960s building, we were proud to help Southern Maine Health Care enhance modern behavioral health services while also improving the facility’s long-term sustainability.
