Meet Ted!

PMO Manager

5 years with F&T



With more than five years at Fitzemeyer & Tocci and over thirteen years of industry experience, Ted Hetzel, PE, CPHC, LEED AP BD+C, has established himself as a trusted leader in sustainable engineering and project delivery. As PMO Manager, Ted combines technical expertise, strategic oversight, and a passion for high-performance building design to help guide complex projects from concept through construction while advancing the firm’s commitment to sustainability.  


A registered Professional Engineer, Certified Passive House Consultant, and LEED Accredited Professional, Ted brings extensive experience in HVAC system design, energy analysis, and sustainable infrastructure planning. His expertise spans healthcare, institutional, commercial, and historic facilities, where he leads multidisciplinary teams, mentors engineers, coordinates quality assurance efforts, and works closely with clients to develop innovative and energy-efficient solutions.  


Recognized as Fitzemeyer & Tocci’s go-to sustainability specialist, Ted has contributed to a wide range of impactful projects, including energy modeling for Brigham & Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s $100 million inpatient tower, infrastructure assessments for Exeter Hospital, HVAC modernization initiatives for historic landmarks such as the House of the Seven Gables, and numerous energy efficiency studies throughout New England. Through his leadership, technical excellence, and commitment to sustainable design, Ted continues to drive project success while helping clients achieve their long-term environmental and operational goals.

Q&A


Can you share a brief overview of what you do at the company? 

I’m a project manager and lead our project management department. I have a mechanical engineering background, and I’ve previously served as HVAC group leader and sustainability technical specialist at F&T. 

   

What inspired you to join our team, and what has been your journey so far? 

F&T has some of the best engineers I’ve ever worked with; it’s been a pleasure to learn from some of the smartest and most creative problem solvers. I also was inspired by the opportunities for growth within the company, allowing for leadership development and further refinement of my engineering and management skills.  

 

What are some of the most rewarding aspects of your job? 

One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is teaching and mentoring, helping team members grow their skills and confidence. I especially enjoy taking complex technical concepts and translating them into clear, easy-to-understand language.
