Fitzemeyer & Tocci is proud to have provided MEP/FP engineering for Fair Haven Community Health Care’s (FHCHC), a new facility that sets a new standard for sustainable, community-based health care. FHCHC’s new 35,560-square-foot expansion is a high-performance, fossil-fuel-free facility.
In June 2025, FHCHC celebrated the ribbon cutting of its first major capital project in over 50 years, marking a significant milestone in the organization's commitment to advancing equitable, accessible care in Connecticut.

Located at 374 Grand Avenue, the new facility will increase patient volume from 33,000 to 55,300 visits per year, dramatically expanding access to health services in a historically underserved community. In a forward-looking model of climate-conscious design and resilient infrastructure in the healthcare sector, all systems were engineered to maximize energy efficiency and eliminate on-site fossil fuel use.
The building includes:
26 modern exam rooms
Expanded behavioral health and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) areas
A community pharmacy
Dedicated space for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition programs
Ryan White Program offices for HIV/AIDS prevention and clinical services
More Than a Clinic: A Hub for Community Well-Being
This expansion reflects FHCHC’s holistic approach to care - one that addresses both medical needs and the social determinants that shape long-term health outcomes. New community-centered spaces include:
A technology-enabled training room for ESL, digital health literacy, and workforce readiness
Flexible programming areas with a demonstration kitchen for nutrition education and support for chronic illness and food insecurity
Infrastructure to support the launch of FHCHC’s innovative “Food as Medicine” program
These features help empower individuals and families beyond traditional clinical encounters, reinforcing the facility’s role as a trusted community anchor.
Engineering with Purpose
As the MEP engineer, Fitzemeyer & Tocci collaborated with E4H Environments for Health Architecture and the FHCHC team to bring this visionary project to life. Together, we delivered a facility that not only meets today’s healthcare needs, but is designed for long-term adaptability, sustainability, and community impact.
We are honored to support FHCHC in realizing a healthier, more equitable, and more sustainable future for all.
